University of Washington Center for Outcomes Research Rehabilitation
Quality of Life Study for People with Spinal Cord Injury
What?
We need individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) to help us decide what questions are most important or relevant to ask people with SCI. Our goal is to develop a new scale of items to gather information about the quality of life of individuals with SCI. You must be:
- Over 18 years old
- Speak English
- Be willing to travel to Seattle
Why?
Although many other quality of life instruments are available, several of them may not be able to capture the unique experiences of living with a spinal cord injury. By developing a new questionnaire based on input from people with SCI, this questionnaire can provide professionals, clinicians, researchers and most importantly consumers and their family and friends important information to better understand the quality of life concerns of a person with SCI.
What’s involved?
One, 2-hour visit to the University of Washington where you will meet with a researcher and participate in a “focus group” – a group of 6-10 individuals with SCI discussing Quality of Life.
Benefits:
- You will receive $35.
- There is no direct benefit for participating in this study, but your input can help us develop a questionnaire that is not presently available that can provide a means for people with SCI to identify and express their quality of life concerns.
